A rat caused the delay of an Air India flight from Dubai to Delhi on January 7, according to Indian newspaper reports.

Flight 746 was due for takeoff when the crew spotted the rat, which eluded their attempts to apprehend it.

According to a comment attributed to an airline spokesperson by The Telegraph: “You can’t fly with a rat inside an aircraft as it can… cut wires crucial to an aircraft’s operations.”

Coastaldigest.com reported that the flight was cancelled in order to allow the plane to be fumigated.

Around 150 people were due to fly.
