Facebook has hired Campbell Brown, a former NBC News anchor, to lead the company’s recently created news partnerships team.
In the role Brown will “help news organisations and journalists work more closely and more effectively with Facebook,” she stated on Facebook page on Friday.
“This is a different role for me, but one where I will be tapping my newsroom experience to help news organizations and journalists work more closely and more effectively with Facebook,” Brown said. “I will be working directly with our partners to help them understand how Facebook can expand the reach of their journalism, and contribute value to their businesses.”
The appointment follows closely from criticism of Facebook for dissemination of fake news and for censoring content.
Brown will act as a liaison with news organisations allowing Facebook to improve the company’s fractured relationship with traditional news outlets, according to a report from the New York Times, which cited Facebook executives.
