Musanada has appointed a contractor to build a new 17,000m2 ladies-only sports and recreational facility in Al Ain.

The project contains a fully-equipped gym and aerobics hall that can be used to host bowling, snooker, basketball, volleyball and squash events.

It also has a half-Olympic-sized swimming pool, an outdoor bicycle track and some tennis courts.

The complex also contains a beauty centre & spa, plus playground facilities for children. Funding for the project has just been approved by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and work is due to start on site this month.

The building will have a gross floor area of around 13,500m2 and will be spread over a ground and two upper floors. It has been designed to achieve a 2-Pearl rating from Estidama for sustainability.

The centre is due to open in September 2014.

Musanada's building project services director, En Mona Al Qubaisi, said the process to choose the consultant and contractor at the club had been "fair, competitive and transparent".

"We are delighted to announce the award of the contractor for the club, who'll meet both our and our client's stringent requirements for this project.

Mohammed Al Mahmoud, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: "This project will provide a state-of-the-art ladies-only sports and recreational facility unmatched in the City of Al Ain, and is part of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council's mission to ensure the provision of such facilities within the Abu Dhabi Emirate."
