Tekla has acquired the British-based specialist construction software company, CSC.

Speaking at the Big 5, Risto Räty, executive VP and general manager for Trimble Buildings Structures Division, explained that the acquisition would expand Tekla's offer to its customers.

"CSC is specialised in steel and concrete design, which is complimentary to Tekla," he said. "Tekla is good in the modelling that serves fabrication purposes and construction site operations; what CSC offers us is the earlier design. It enables us to see more details about steel beams, what loads it has to carry and so forth.

"It's really providing a complete work flow for the structural part of the building and we all know structures are the critical elements."

The deal was done by Trimble Navigation, the parent company behind Tekla, and the acquisition will be joining the Trimble Buildings Structures Division.

"CSC has more than 100 staff, so it is a decent-size private company, with good growth and profitability," said Räty.
