Orascom Construction Limited has completed more than 40 million man-hours without a lost-time incident (LTI) at the Burullus Power Plant project in Egypt.
The company said in a statement that the safety milestone serves to highlight its “commitment to the highest levels of safety and training, while setting a new global benchmark for the fast-track execution of power projects”.
According to Orascom, construction of the project, which commenced in October 2015, is progressing ahead of schedule, despite several challenges.
These challenges range from “immense site preparation to severe weather conditions due to the project’s location", the company added.
Upon completion, the 4,800MW Burullus Power Plant will rank among the largest natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants in the world.
Phase 1 of the Burullus plant, as well as that of the country's New Capital plant, was inaugurated in March 2017, an event that was attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
