Riyadh: Saudi Arabia strengthens tourism drive

Saudi Culture Minister Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan announced new initiatives designed to transform the cultural sector into an essential part of people’s everyday lives, Arab News online reported. The announcement was made during a night showcasing arts and culture at a ceremony in Riyadh’s museum district.

 

The online news outlet reported Saudi Culture Minister Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan as saying that the ministry intended to create an environment that supports national talents in all areas and sectors, and to preserve the country’s culture and wealth.

Reportedly, Prince Badr said the ministry strives to present Saudi Arabia’s rich culture in the best way possible based on the Vision 2030 reform plan’s goal to enhance quality of life and raise citizens’ aspirations. Saudi Vision 2030 is a plan to reduce Saudi Arabia's dependence on oil, diversify its economy, and develop public service sectors, including recreation and tourism.

On the back of this hotels have been eyeing the Saudi Arabian domestic market, beyond the establish market of religious tourism in Medina and Makkah, and the country’s major centres.

Late March 2019, Hotelier reported that domestic tourism is fuelling Radisson's Saudi Arabia market. The hotel group said to Hotelier in an exclusive interview that it was focusing on expanding its brand the kingdom’s secondary cities.

Hotelier also reported that tourists from Europe to the GCC will increase by 29% from 2018 to 2023, with UAE and Saudi Arabia expected to continue to be the preferred GCC destinations for them.

Cision PR newswire reported that Saudi culture and heritage were celebrated during the arts and culture ceremony, which was attended by Saudi government officials and cultural influencers.
