Carbon Black focuses on partner enablement
McElroy says growing trends in mobility and cloud have made the endpoint the new perimeter.

Cloud and endpoint security solutions vendor Carbon Black, used its appearance at Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (GISEC) 2018 to raise awareness about cyber security threats and urged partners to take a lead in guiding their customers to adopt comprehensive IT security solutions.

Rick McElroy, security strategist, Carbon Black, said growing trends in mobility and cloud have made the endpoint the new perimeter. McElroy added that the new and emerging attacks are beating traditional IT defences, and security teams are too reactive and held back by their technologies. "Our role as Carbon Black is to make the world safe from cyberattacks," he said.

McElroy explained that to achieve this, Carbon Black is leveraging the power of big data and analytics to solve the challenges surrounding endpoint security. "With our Predictive Security Cloud platform, we are transforming cyber security to deliver a new generation of cloud-delivered security solutions designed to protect against the most advanced threats," he said.

Aside from putting the spotlight on its Predictive Security Cloud platform and end point security, Carbon Black also used the show to galvanise channel partners from across the region, demonstrated a range of solutions and urged them to work with the company.

Jon Kane, channel director, Carbon Black EMEA, said being at GISEC this year was important for the company because it was able to use the platform to raise awareness with partners about the enablement schemes. "Given that we are a 100% channel-driven vendor, platforms like GISEC are suited for us because we were able to reach a wide channel base together with our distributor in the region Westcon," he said.

Kane said the company has a two tier channel model and works with a select number of partners. "As we develop our channel business in the region, we want to ensure that we have focused partners that are trained, enabled and most importantly, helped to find the right opportunities in the market," he explained.

McElroy added that because of the targeted threats that are happening in the Middle East, it is important that organisations work with best of breed vendors that have robust and intelligence-led IT security offerings. "Carbon Black offers more than an endpoint security and operations platform," he said. "We supports a robust community made up of customers, channel partners, and industry experts that engage daily to collaborate and combat today's threat landscape."

McElroy said given the rapidly evolving threat landscape, it is vital that IT security awareness levels are at an all-time high. "Any IT defender that pays attention gets it right," he said. "In the past, most organisations in the Middle East didn't have the visibility to know for certain that they have breaches in their network."

He explained that the launch into the IT security market of endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions was the turning point as today, there are really strong preventative models that detect and respond appropriate to any breach.

Kane added that on the channel front, Carbon Black was keen to be at GISEC this year because it wants to know what it's getting right and wrong. "I don't want to sound too negative but during the show I was interested to know what we are doing wrong because it's through such an exercise that we will be able to improve on our commitments and deliverables to partners," he pointed out. "We have a dedicated partner account manager here who is working closely with our distributor in the region."

Going forward, added Kane, the Carbon Balck would like to get it right in Saudi Arabia and the UAE before spreading to other markets in the GCC.
