The Federal Appeal Court in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday upheld a life sentence for an Emirati, aged 29, who was found guilty of joining a terrorist organisation and travelling abroad with the intention of fighting, state news agency WAM reported.
The Appeal Court also sentenced an Emirati woman to 10 years in jail after she was found guilty of joining ISIL. The court further ordered confiscation of the items seized from her residence.
WAM said the Emirati woman posted online a pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi, leader of ISIL, in addition to posting articles and information that promote terrorist ideologies.
However, the court acquitted the woman’s sister of all charges, WAM added.
