Oman has reportedly halved the minimum monthly salary required for an expat to bring their family to live with them in the sultanate.

According to local media reports, the Shoura Council has taken the decision to cut the minimum wage requirement from OR600 ($1,558) to OR300 ($779), citing a tweet issued by Shoura Council member Sultan bin Majid Al-Abri.

The tweet read: “The visa condition for family members joining an expatriate employee has been amended from a minimum salary of OR600 to OR300.”

The change is reportedly part of one of the initiatives of the Tanfeedh program which is aimed at boosting and aiding the diversification of the country’s economy.
