A Qantas A380 collided with a Boeing 747-400 aircraft also belonging to the Australian carrier while being towed at the Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday, the nbcnews website reported.

According to the report, no passengers were on board at the time but the wingtips of both aircraft were damaged, forcing the airline to cancel its flights from the airport.

Passengers were put up in hotels until they could be accommodated on subsequent flights.

Meanwhile on Friday, Qantas Airline announced that it would be cutting 5,000 jobs after a posting a $252 million first half loss.
