Etihad Airways has joined Emirates airlines and Flydubai in suspending flights to Sudan.

It comes amid increasing safety fears in Khartoum with ongoing violence between the Sudanese military and protesters.

Campaigners had called for ongoing civil disobedience from Sunday to make it as difficult as possible for the military to govern Sudan.

Opposition activists say 108 people were killed last week, while four people were reported killed on Sunday.

Emirates and Flydubai had already suspended flights last week. In a statement, Etihad Airways said the safety of its passengers was its number one priority.

“The safety of guests and airline staff is the highest priority for Etihad Airways, and we continue to monitor the situation closely.

“Our guest response team is working to support affected guests. For further information, please call the Etihad Airways Contact Centre on +971 600 555 666, or check the status of your flight on our website at, or through our mobile app.”
