Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has announced plans to launch a new premium economy class offering starting from spring 2021.

Set to be offered across the entirety of its long-haul fleet, the carrier is expected to first unveil the offer on its 24-seat section on its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

To introduce the new product to its Boeing 777 fleet, the carrier is set to invest an estimated $39.94m.

Responding to demands for an alternative product that sits between economy class and business class, the decision to launch a premium economy class offering was also motivated by the success of a similar offering from SWISS’s sister airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines.

The new seating design, which the airline is set to commence work on over the winter of 2020/21, will feature extensive legroom and movement.

Tamur Goudarzi Pour, SWISS’s chief commercial officer, said: “All in all, our Premium Economy Class travellers will enjoy a substantially stronger sense of personal space.”
