A Saudi aviation student and his Filipino instructor have gone missing after their training plane failed to return from a training exercise.
Abdullah Khalid Al Sherif, 23, who was in the country studying at an aviation institution, was on a training flight on May 18 when contact was lost with the aircraft. The aircraft disappeared from radar over Occidental Mindoro soon thereafter.
A statement released by the Saudi embassy in the Philippines noted that an investigation with local authorities was underway.
“The Saudi Foreign Ministry constantly follows up with the embassy on the search for the student,” the statement read.
“We will continue to make efforts to search for him in coordination with the Philippine Interior Ministry, the Defence Ministry, the Civil Aviation Authority and other agencies concerned.”
