Sony Professional Solutions, supported by Dubai Studio City (DSC) and CABSAT, has announced the winners of the first nation-wide happiness themed videography competition.
The competition launched at CABSAT earlier this year, received close to 250 registrations for five-minute video submissions from both the professional and student community to visually capture what ‘happiness’ means to them.
Amir Ghorbani Nia was chosen as the grand-prize winner of the professional category for his short film titled “Hunger” and was awarded a Sony PXW-FS5 camera. His entry took the happiness theme to another level and painted a poignant portrait tackling the social issue on world hunger. From the student category, Diyab Basheer from Manipal University Dubai received the exciting Sony Alpha 7S II for his movie titled “Bliss”.
Majid Sarhaddi and Mark Stanley both received special mentions within the Professional category for their ‘Happiness in Cricket’ and ‘Game of phones’ submissions respectively.
Peter Kyriakos, head of marketing, Sony Professional Solutions MEA, said: “The competition was designed to be a platform for videography enthusiasts to create and showcase ‘happiness’ through their lens. Happiness is a nation-wide movement, one that Sony Professional aims to build on and we are glad to have inspired developing ‘videography enthusiasts from across the nation.
"The response to this competition has been phenomenal which only confirms that the photography and videography culture is further expanding in the UAE. Both amateur and professional photographers are seeking new ways to communicate and exchange their vision with the world.
