National Geographic Abu Dhabi (NGAD) and Almarai, in partnership with Abu Dhabi Media, has announced the close of the 8th edition of its annual photography competition ‘Moments.’
The show organisers received over 40,000 photographs, taken on professional Nikon cameras, from across the Arab World, and out of them, four have been selected to compete for the Grand Prize.
‘Moments’ aims to nurture the talent of aspiring Arab photographers.

The second photo, by Anouar from Morocco, showcases a traditional exhibition of horsemanship in Morocco. This moment was shot on Nikon D3100, using F6.3 aperture.
The third photo, by Firas from Saudi Arabia, captures the story of a young man sitting in contemplation on the roof of his humble neighborhood at night and using a neon lamp as his only source of light. The photo was shot on Nikon D55.
The fourth photo, by Marwan from Egypt, spotlights a spontaneous moment of a famous female singer, enjoying her moment of glory on stage. The photo was shot on Nikon D3200.
Narendra Menon, managing director, Nikon Middle East FZE, said, “Nikon and National Geographic derive their core values from the same sense of passion towards visual storytelling. Committed to the art of documenting history through photography, we have strived to play our role in gaining greater interest in the art form. ‘Moments’ gives us great hope in our efforts to encourage photographers of all essence. We are delighted to see a huge number of participants and are proud to be a part of this exciting venture. We have expanded beyond our core function as camera equipment providers to include education of photography. Through our school and workshops, we hope to inspire new generations at honing their skills in photography and growing the pool of talent from the magnificent region. And I am confident that this joint venture will yield great results in the field of photography. An artist is incomplete without an audience and platform like Moments definitely encourages the photographers by giving them recognition and an exposure to a larger audience which is essential for the artist to grow.”
The Grand Prize winner’s photograph will be printed in the National Geographic magazine’s Arabic edition. The winner will also win a ten-day trip to Italy, worth US$10,000, where they will be mentored by National Geographic expert photographers, in addition to photography equipment worth US$10,000, courtesy of Nikon.
