Following its success in the Middle East, Discovery has launched its home and lifestyle network, HGTV, as a pay-tv channel in South Africa.

HGTV, an acronym for ‘home and garden television’, is dedicated to reaching primarily young, female audiences with 500 hours of new content each year.

The channel was launched in the Middle East, for the first time outside of the US, in 2016 exclusively on beIN.

The channel first launched in Poland in 2017 and Germany last month.

HGTV has international hit shows which include Fixer Upper, House Hunters and Flip or Flop.

Amanda Turnbull, vice president and GM for Discovery, Middle East and Africa said: “With such phenomenal success in the Middle East, as well as in HGTV’s home-market in the US, we are confident that this continued global expansion will further captivate audiences with the best in real-life home and renovation content.”
