nVidia's Studio Driver to support 30-bit colour

On the heels of its announcement of 10 new RTX Studio laptops and pro mobile workstations set to be released by major partners, American tech company nVidia also revealed their latest Studio Driver at this year's Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (Siggraph).

At the computer graphics (CG) convention, the company explained that the driver would provide optimal support for newer releases of apps like Magix Vegas Pro v17, Autodesk Arnold, Allegorithmic Substance Painter 2019.2, Blender 2.80, Cinema 4D R21, and Otoy Octane Render 2019.2.

The nVidia Studio Driver is said to bring in support for 30-bit colour across all product lines, including their GeForce and Titan GPUs, reportedly allowing "seamless color transition without banding." In comparison with 24-bit color—which can build a pixel from 16.7 million colour shades—the Studio Driver's 30-bit colour support would allow creators to build a pixel from over 1 billion colour shades, eliminating abrupt changes within various shades of the same colour.

Apps that currently support 30-bit colour include Adobe's Photoshop and Premiere Pro, Autodesk RV, Colorfront Transkoder, Assimilate Scratch, and Foundry Nuke.
