Facebook has added more Watch Party tools for publishers on its platform.
Erin Connolly, product manager, Facebook said: “We know people like watching videos together with friends. In fact, we’ve found that people are eight times more likely to comment on videos in Watch Party than when watching on their own. Many publishers and creators around the world are using Watch Parties to connect with their audiences. For example, Rio de Janeiro’s Clube de Regatas do Flamengo football team hosted a Watch Party for the Live broadcast of their winning match in the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores tournament, which enabled thousands of fans who weren’t able to attend in person to watch and discuss the game in real time.
“We’ve heard requests for capabilities to make Watch Parties a more useful publishing tool for Pages, so today we’re introducing four new updates: scheduling, replays, new insights, and branded content for Watch Parties.”
- Scheduling enables a Page to schedule a Watch Party in advance and build anticipation. Like a scheduled Live broadcast, scheduling a Watch Party creates an announcement post where people can opt-in to be notified when the Watch Party begins.
- Not everyone can tune in at the exact time a Watch Party is happening, so replays allow people to experience Watch Parties after they air, making them available to a wider audience and more valuable to Pages.
- To help Pages better understand how their Watch Parties are driving viewership, we added two new metrics in Creator Studio for Watch Parties: Minutes Viewed and Unique 60s Viewers. Minutes Viewed shows the total amount of watch time accrued in a Watch Party and Unique 60s Viewers shows the total number of unique users that watched at least 60 seconds in a Watch Party. These new insights complement existing metrics like reach and engagement.
- Pages can now tag their business partners in branded content Watch Parties so that both parties can see insights on the performance of the Watch Party. This gives Pages an opportunity to integrate Watch Parties into their branded content playbook and earn revenue from Watch Parties.
