You’ve heard all about blockchain, time and time and time and time again. It’s everywhere these days, and for good reason: after all, blockchain is changing the world like few technologies ever have before.
Also firmly falling into the “ridiculously obvious” category is the fact it seems everyone and their pet Shar-Pei is doing something with blockchain and/or getting into the blockchain business – and that the United Arab Emirates is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s main centres for blockchain.
So, it’s probably no surprise that Bitfury Group has decided to expand its global operations into the UAE by opening an office in Dubai. But, as tends to be the case, there’s more to the move than meets the eye.
Bitfury’s expansion also reflects growing interest in blockchain technology among governments, businesses and institutions across the UAE. As they work to improve the services and systems they provide to people, they are increasingly focused on blockchain to deliver secure, trusted solutions.
“The UAE is an extraordinarily innovative place and a crucial area of growth for blockchain technology,” says Valery Vavilov, Bitfury’s CEO. “We look forward to building new customer relationships and partnerships and designing the products they need to make their enterprises run more securely and efficiently.”
George Kikvadze, executive vice chairman of Bitfury, says the new office opening will advance Bitfury’s commitment to developing blockchain solutions globally. “Expanding into the MENA region is the natural next step in Bitfury’s mission to bolster blockchain growth and improve systems for governments and business around the world. The UAE is at the heart of this growth, and we are excited to begin our work in such a dynamic country.”
Nicola Mariani will manage the Dubai office – located in the city’s Design District – and serve as Bitfury’s new chief legal officer. “Blockchain technology is fundamentally changing many aspects of our society and may be the most important invention since the internet,” Mariani says.
The Bitfury Group is a leading full-service blockchain technology company, and one of the largest private infrastructure providers in the blockchain ecosystem. The organisation develops and delivers both the software and the hardware solutions necessary for businesses, governments, organisations and individuals to securely move an asset across blockchain – in essence, making the whole process of using, and understanding, blockchain much easier. The Bitfury Group is a global team of experts in technology, business, communications, security and civil society, and believes blockchain can and will open new doors for global economic opportunity and prosperity.
Given blockchain’s explosive growth in what seems like a fairly short amount of time, it would seem those doors are wide open indeed.
