The Australian state of Victoria has banned the use of cellphones in school classrooms.

The ban was announced on June 26.

The ban will apply to primary and secondary students, and will begin during the first term in 2020.

In a statement, the Victorian government said the ban is designed to crack down on cyber-bulling and classroom distractions.

It is the first statewide cellphone is classrooms ban in Australia.
