PEACE is an acronym for Pakistan and East Africa Connecting Europe, which is an open and neutral submarine cable system. It measures 12,000 kilometres in length, linking France to Pakistan through a single landing point in the city of Marseille by 2021. It will run through the Europe-Asia route, Kenya and the Indian Ocean to ensure optimum latency, with plans to extend to South Africa in the future.Through this agreement, Orange, being the leading telecommunications operator in France, will supply and operate the cable landing station in Marseille and link it to one of its major data centres. This will make it a gateway to the European and American network thanks to access to the transatlantic network.
Orange is the only French operator in the industry with existing infrastructure and technical expertise to make this happen in France. It is a major investor in over 40 submarine cables to date and continues to invest in a great number of projects to offer high-quality connectivity throughout the world. Moreover, it has acquired 500Gbps of capacity on the cable between Marseille and Kenya to support the growth of traffic in the Indian Ocean for several years. The objective is also to find alternatives to the EASSy cable which links Djibouti to South Africa.
