Google has appointed former IBM India exec, Karan Bajwa, to the position of managing director of Google Cloud in India.

A report in The Economic Times of India lists OYO Hotels and ICICI Prudential among Google Cloud’s key customers in India – a market in which it is trying to consolidate its presence.

Bajwa brings a host of industry experience to the role, having previously risen through the ranks to head up IBM India. Bajwa has over 30 years’ experience in the tech sector and has also previously worked for Cisco Systems in Singapore and India.

“Karan is a veteran in the industry with a proven track record of building and growing successful enterprise businesses. His experience will be a tremendous asset to Google Cloud’s business, our partners and our customers as we embark on this next phase of growth,” said Rick Harshman, managing director of Google Cloud in Asia Pacific.

Bajwa will begin his new role with immediate effect.

“I’m very excited about this new challenge and I look forward to extending Google’s global momentum in India. Leveraging cloud computing technology to modernise and scale for growth is on the agenda of almost every enterprise CEO and CIO and Google Cloud is committed to help every organisation accelerate their digital transformation,” said Bajwa.
