Komatsu has had to issue a warning over a fictitious scam website in Ghana that has been posing as part of its group and requesting personal information and paid deposits from hopeful job applicants.
The Japanese manufacturer issued the following statement:
“Komatsu Ltd does not have a subsidiary or affiliate called ‘Komatsu Global Mining And Construction Company Ghana’ and has no connection with such company. The website mentioned above is using data copied from Komatsu’s official website without granted permission or authority.”
Komatsu added that its employees never use free, web-based email accounts like Outlook, Gmail or Yahoo mail or requests monetary payments via email in relation to its hiring process.
The company is now working with law enforcement authorities in Ghana to have the fraudulent website shut down, and advising people not to respond to unsolicited emails from the fictitious firm, and certainly not to hand over passport or payment details.
