Construction works on the $272.3m (AED1bn) Mohammed bin Rashid (MBR) Library project have crossed the 20% mark, according to ASGC.

Sameh Samy, project director at ASGC, told Construction Week that the library, which has a built-up area of 54.061m2, is now 22% complete.

“The steel structure, which is approximately 5,700 tonnes, is prefabricated and progressing from the fourth to seventh floors,” he revealed, adding that blockwork and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) first fix works are ongoing, while concrete work has reached the fourth floor.

Meanwhile, the vertical core walls have been completed up to the roof. The company revealed that is using a pin connection system to fix the upper part of the building – from the fifth to the seventh floors – to the core walls to ensure stability and alignment.

ASGC commenced construction of the project after being awarded the main contract, valued at $245m (AED900m), in October 2016.

Launched in February 2016, the library is located in Dubai’s Al Jaddaf area. It is expected to be completed in 2018.
