Saudi Arabia has started implementing the midday work break, which prevents work under direct sunlight between 12pm and 3pm.

The kingdom’sMinistry of Labour and Social Development said the break is applicable between 15 June and 15 September.

Khalid Abalkhail, spokesperson for the ministry, said a reminder had been sent to all government and private-sector entities to abide by the decision, which was "issued as a law" by Saudi's Cabinet.

Exemptions to the break may be made in areas where the “temperature is tolerable”, Abalkhail added, according to a statement by the Saudi Press Agency.

In a tweet on 17 June, the labour ministry revealed its inspection section had conducted field tours of numerous locations to follow up on the midday work break's implementation.
