Hudayriat Island beach opens in Abu Dhabi

The Hudayriat Recreational Beach in Abu Dhabi has been officially opened by The Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities.

Located on the 30km² Hudayriat Island, the recreational beach boasts 20 sporting facilitates designed to attract tourists of both leisure and luxury to the UAE capital city.

It features four football fields, four volleyball courts, four basketball courts, four tennis courts, two beach football fields, two beach volleyball courts, and a public garden.

Musanada started infrastructure work on Hudayriat Recreational Beach in March 2018, and completed the job in May 2018, WAM reported. 

HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council attended the opening ceremony.

He said Hudayriat Recreational Beach reinforced the UAE’s vision “to build a modern city and strengthen Abu Dhabi’s urban development”.

Dozens of senior government official attended the Hudayriat Recreational Beach inauguration, suggesting the project is highly regarded among government figures.

Among the attendees included thechairman of the Department of Energy, Awaidha Murshed Al Marar; chairman of the Department of Economic Development, Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri;  chairman of the Department of Health, Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohamed Al Hamed; and chairman of the Department of Energy, Mohammed Saeed Al Suwaidi.

Senior officials from the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Government Media Office, and Abu Dhabi Police also attended the official opening ceremony.

Commenting on the project at the event, ADM’s general manager, Saif Badr Al Qubaisi, said: "The Hudayriat Beach project aims to provide a new recreational destination, complete with a variety of leisure, sports, shops and restaurants that meet everyone’s needs, making the beach an ideal location for tourism, and entertainment throughout the year.

"It is also perfect for hosting many world sporting events on the island."

It is unclear how much the project cost to build, but plans for the island have been ongoing since 2009.
