Finnish lift and escalator manufacturer Kone has opened a distribution outlet in Dubai South that allows customers in the Middle East and Africa to access spare parts if equipment breaks or becomes faulty.

It is the first distribution centre in the region for Kone, which has supplied its products to Burj Khalifa and Makkah Clock Tower, and was officially opened in March 2019.

The site will allow Kone to distribute spare parts of its products and those from other companies to its customers at a quicker pace, helping Kone’s customers reduce any downtime if an escalator or elevator has to be temporarily shut down for maintenance.

With super-tall towers becoming the new normal in the Middle East and skyscrapers such as Jeddah Tower rapidly taking shape, high-rise buildings are often fitted with complex people flow systems that require regular servicing.

This is according to Kone, which said the requirements of buildings in the region tend to be characterised by “high service levels, [and] continuous accessibility expectations together with customer-specific maintenance needs”.

Meanwhile, the company’s managing director for the Middle East and Africa, Samer Halabi, said that opening the first regional distribution centre in Dubai was a “milestone” for the company.

“Being geographically close to our customers allows us to further enhance our service level and to accelerate the response time to customer requirements,” he added.
