H H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, visited the construction site of Museum of the Future, it was announced on 12 January, 2019.
The visit by Sheikh Mohammed came as part of his tour of Dubai Future Foundation’s projects, during which the Dubai Ruler was provided updates on each scheme’s development progress.
Sheikh Mohammed toured Area 2071 as part of his visit. Planned as an innovation hub to encourage creative problem-solving skills, Area 2071 is viewed as a “physical manifestation” of the UAE Centennial Plan. The plan is aimed at making the UAE a world leader by its 100thanniversary in 2071.
Museum of the Future is considered an architectural and design landmark in the city, and is due to open in 2020. Designed by the Shaun Killa-led Killa Design, Museum of the Future is being built by Dutch contractor Bam International.
According to Dubai Media Office, the museum “builds on over five years of temporary immersive exhibitions” held at World Government Summit events. These shows “led to the conception of Dubai Future Foundation and the permanent Museum of the Future”. Upon completion, the structure is planned to become the world’s “largest and most exciting home” for future trends and opportunities.
During his tour, the Dubai Ruler was also provided updates on Dubai Future Foundation initiatives such as Dubai 10X, Dubai Future Accelerators, Dubai Future Academy, and One Million Arab Coders.
HH Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied on the tour by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council and of the board of trustees of Dubai Future Foundation; and HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
Also in attendance were HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Knowledge Foundation; HE Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, the UAE’s Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the managing director and vice chairman of Dubai Future Foundation’s board of trustees; and HE Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and deputy managing director of Dubai Future Foundation.
