Emirates Central Cooling System Corporation (Empower) has launched its ‘Switch to 24°C and Save More’ initiative to reduce the consumption of district cooling during the summer months in the Dubai with the aim of driving sustainability during the period and reducing the impact of climate change.
As part of the summer campaign, residents are being encouraged to set their AC thermostat to 24°C, which will help reduce district cooling consumption, cut costs, and save energy.
The campaign covers all 1,090 buildings that Empower manages across the commercial and residential sectors.
Commenting on the initiative, chief executive officer of Empower, Ahmad bin Shafar, said: “Empower supports the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to decrease the impact of climate change by reducing the consumption of water and electricity by 30%."
Empower recorded 1,160MW in energy savings, equivalent to $816.8m (AED3bn), at the end of 2018.
The company, which has adopted artificial intelligence (AI) for its under-construction plant in Dubai’s Jumeirah Village Circle, is set to deliver 6,500 RT of district cooling to high-profile Dubai projects, such as the ICD Brookfield Place development in Dubai International Financial Centre.
