Residents of a residential tower block in Ajman reportedly fell ill after using the tap water supply in the apartment.

Residents were nauseas with some of them reportedly suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea after using the tap water in their apartments.

The Gulf News report reported that officials from the Ministry of Health and the Environment Department of Ajman Municipality visited the building on Saturday to take samples of the water for investigation.

The occupants told the daily they sought treatment in local healthcare facilities. They alleged that the water smelt like sewage and had changed colour.

Most of those who fell sick were children, residents said.

A notice was put up by the block’s facilities management operator that said, “please don’t use the water” because of “an emergency”.

A committee from the Ministry of Health as well as a committee from Environment Department of Ajman Municipality visited the building on Saturday and spoke to the tenants.

They said samples of the water were taken and will be sent to the laboratory to find out the cause of the problem.

“The incident is still under investigation,” an official said.
