Italian oil and gas company Eni organised a meeting with the Italian National Committee of the World Energy Council (WEC Italy) – a non-profit multi-energy association based in Rome – and WEC's Congress Organising Committee chairman, HE Dr Matar Al Neyadi, for the 24th World Energy Congress that will be held in Abu Dhabi on 9-12 September, 2019, with the Italian oil company's chief executive officer, Claudio Descalzi, expected to participate at the event later this year.
During the Congress, WEC Italy will organise an event named 'Pathways to regional energy transition in the Mediterranean' with the aim of highlighting the ways in which regional countries can achieve sustainability.
Participants at the event are expected to include director-general of Abu Dhabi-headquartered Irena, and general director of Observatoire Méditerranéen de l'Energie, Dr Houda Ben Jannet Allal.
Also expected at the congress alongside Descalzi is head of sustainability at Falck Renewables, Alessandro Costa.
Commenting on the development, Neyadi said: “Italy, as a hub between Europe and North Africa, will play a strategic role over the coming decades in meeting growing energy demand around the Mediterranean region.
"The congress will be unique in convening energy leaders from all regions, something I am glad that the Italian energy sector has.”
