Having joined the Indian construction and engineering heavyweight in 1984, SN Subrahmanyan was promoted to his current role of chief executive officer and managing director of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in 2017 by the company’s board of directors.

With a career spanning more than 35 years, Subrahmanyan has led the Bombay Stock Exchange-listed company to major contract wins in the Middle East, where the firm has been involved in several projects in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait.

In May, a consortium of L&T and the Finnish firm Outotec was awarded a $606m (SAR2.7bn) contract for a two-site Mansorah and Massarah gold mine factory by Gold and Base Metals Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden).

Earlier this year, under Subrahmanyan’s leadership, the firm launched a five-year strategic initiative, L&T-Nxt, which will focus on new, disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, augmented and virtual reality, geo-spatial enterprises, and cyber security.
