Miral's 18,000-seater Yas Bay Arena, an ongoing construction project at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, has made major construction progress, with its longest roof truss – autographed by Miral chairman, HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, and chief executive officer, Eng Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi – lifted into place.

Under construction by Dutch contractor Bam International, the Hok- and Pascall + Watson-designed Yas Bay Arena is the first facility of its kind in the UAE capital, and is designed to host sports, corporate, and cultural events.

HE Al Mubarak signs the roof truss of Yas Bay Arena.

Developer-operator Miral describes the arena as “an integral part of Yas Bay’s waterfront destination” which, in turn, is a component of the 130ha mixed-use area under development on Yas Island’s southern end.

Miral said the roof truss will contribute to the arena’s “green credentials”, and supports a self-shading façade that will support natural light, insulate against heat, and help cut energy consumption.

The arena is expected to be fitted with systems that will respectively result in energy and water savings of 22.4% and 28% each year.

On its website, contractor Bam International says it started work on Yas Bay Arena – or Yas Arena, as the project is also called – on 17 December, 2017. Bam expects to complete its Yas Bay Arena works by November 2019.
