The Emirate of Fujairah has been granted a budget of $272.2m (AED1bn) to fund the construction of infrastructure projects as the UAE's urban development efforts pick up pace.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, approved the capital spending plan during a visit to Fujairah on 5 March, 2019.
The UAE's Ministry of Infrastructure Development is supporting the $272m drive as part of its five-year development plan for the country's eastern coast.
An allocation of $108.8m (AED400m) to build a 1.6ha housing complex in Khor Fakkan, which will be implemented by Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme (SZHP) was also approved during the trip.
HH Sheikh Mohammed was joined by Mohammad Al Gergawi, the UAE's Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future; and Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, UAE Minister of Infrastructure Development and chairman of SZHP, during his trip to Fujairah, where he was given a tour of the emirate’s ongoing development projects.
Among these was the $46.2m (AED170m) renovation of Maliha Road, which runs from Sharjah to Fujairah Road. The highway is due to complete in December 2019.
The Dubai Ruler reviewed the renovation and maintenance of Hamad bin Abdullah Road in Fujairah, a $54.4m (AED200m) development that will complete in H1 2020.
HH Sheikh Mohammed also inspected work on the E88 national road that links Sharjah, Al Dhaid, and Masafi. The Dubai Ruler also toured under-construction schools, healthcare projects, and the upcoming new headquarters of Fujairah Police. A civil defence centre, and a building for courts and prosecution services, in the coastal town of Dibb were also reviewed.
The Ruler of Dubai said the UAE government’s development efforts will “be the same across the country, because the vision is the same and the land is the same".
HH Sheikh Mohammed added: “All the regions of the UAE are important and have great development potential. Infrastructure projects are key to the nation’s development and prosperity,” he added.
The Fujairah investment comes after HH Sheikh Mohammed approved separate budgets for infrastructure, housing, and education projects in the UAE since the start of 2019.
