Dubai Municipality is working on the construction of six water wells in seven countries facing water scarcity — Bangladesh (pictured), Benin, Brazil, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Tajikistan—that will benefit 34,300 people.

The move is in support of the Well of Hope competition, in which HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, invited government and private institutions to pump and fill hundreds of water bottles through Well of Hope’s virtual pumping devices in the Quranic Park.

The total amounts of water pumped by each device and organisation will be provided to the needy people in deprived communities by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.

Commenting on the campaign, Dawood Al Hajri, director general of Dubai Municipality, said: “We’re delighted to be one of the participants in the Well of Hope competition as it’s a qualitative initiative that contributes to providing to the least fortunate on water in the world.”

Additionally, Dubai Municipality hosted a Tolerance Iftar for its workers to celebrate Zayed Day for Humanitarian Action, the municipal body said in a statement.

“It was part of promoting the humanitarian thought of late Sheikh Zayed, which is a source of inspiration in kindness, selflessness, and compassion,” Al Hajri said.
