Construction work on the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2020 got underway with the one-year countdown celebrations for the global event in full swing.
Situated in the Sustainability District of the site, ground was broken on a prject that will be carried out by Malaysian contractor Qube Integrated Sdn Bhd and local partner RAQ Contracting.
The Rainforest Canopy, as the pavilion is known, will be divided into four segments under a theme of ‘Energising Sustainability’.
The design, by Kuala Lumpur-based firm Hijjas Architects + Planners, was inspired by Malaysia’s oldest rainforests.
Deputy commissioner-general for Malaysia in Expo 2020 Dubai, Mohd Nor Azman Hassan, said: “Malaysia aims to attract $2.5bn in potential trade and investments, capturing 1,000 business leads with 20 memorandums of understanding or partnership agreements signed in our six-month long participation at Expo 2020 Dubai.”
