Construction has started on Expo 2020 Dubai’s Netherlands Pavilion, which features a cone-shaped vertical farm, following the completion of mobilisation works at the site of the Sustainability District structure.

A consortium comprising Expomobilia, V8 Architects, Kossmann Dejong, and Witteveen+Bos was awarded a design and construction contract for the project after its tender was floated in June 2018.

The Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commissioned Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) — part of the country’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy — to oversee the pavilion’s design, build, maintenance, and dismantling work.

Ground was broken on the pavilion in June 2019.

According to information published on Expo 2020 Dubai’s website, the Dutch pavilion will be built using locally sourced materials that will be recycled after the next World Expo, which opens its doors on 20 October 2020.
