Bahrain Bourse-listed Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has said that few contractors’ employees have been infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The company said: “In line with our commitment to ensure a safe and responsible work environment for our employees and contractors, we would like to update you that three infected cases were found within Alba contractors’ employees.”

In a statement, the largest smelter in the world outside China said that the three infected contractors have been put under quarantine.

“All people who have been in contact with them have been contacted to take the necessary precautions as instructed by the ministry of health’s COVID-19 combat team.”

Last month, Alba launched its response strategy featuring a number of safety measures for its workers to combat the threat of COVID-19.

Alba said that it had been organising COVID-19 awareness sessions for employees and contractors, which are being conducted by Alba's Health Care team regularly via video-messaging and online platforms.
