At the FM Expo Saudi and Saudi Clean Expo that took place from 11 – 13 February at the Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center, Eng. Khalid A. Al Mubarak, general manager, Tadbeir, said that the market for FM was growing in Saudi.

Al Mubarak said: "From my experience of visiting the FM Expo Saudi, I can see significant differences from the previous Expo. The number of visitors and awareness of people have increased. The number of companies participating in the Expo have also increased. This means the market is growing."

Tadbeir, which started out as a pure FM company from the beginning, is more than six years old in the market and follows international standards. He said: "We are ISO certified and a member of MEFMA; we are following the BICS standard in the cleaning and soft services. This makes us more trustworthy in the industry."

Talking about the Saudi market, Al Mubarak said: "We are only focused on the Saudi market, as the future is Saudi. I believe most of the international companies want to enter the Saudi market. So, as a local company, we need to put all our efforts in Saudi."

Al Mubarak added that there were a few challenges in the market, with the first being a lack of understanding from clients about FM.

The second is manpower, which is starting to change. He added: "Before we could not find local people specialised in supervising cleaners, but now there are many institutes that deliver quality people. The third issue is suppliers and spare parts. Sometimes, we face it difficult to get the spare parts from suppliers. Suppliers should understand how important the FM sector is."

Al Mubarak said that technology has changed the way FM functions. He said: "Through technology, clients can monitor the service. They can control the costs too because everything would be in the system. Through technology, we can get feedback from clients. I always say we need to listen to negative comments rather than just hearing the positives, as it will help you improve and develop yourself.

"Transparency between the client and server provider is very important."
