My role involves developing, implementing and delivering on the Awtad FM’s strategic plan in line with the corporate social responsibilities and shareholders core values and nobility. As with every other job, I keep a timesheet to check that my activities match my priorities.1.45 What do you love most about your job?
Facilities management is still a labour-intensive industry. What I love about my job is the collaborative environment. I love having a voice. My boss listens to my ideas and the whole team works together to make them happen. We all support each other and work together to offer creative feedback and then make our ideas a reality. I love being appreciated and listened to
2.05 What is the most memorable project and why?
I was managing the project with Abu Dhabi Airport (refurbishment, waterproofing and coating works) that was scheduled in order to deliver projects on time, having tight deadlines. One of our senior engineers found a major defect (seepage) on the structure and he wanted to push back on the deadline, which I knew the client wouldn’t appreciate.
We created a list of things we could delay and work on after the deadline and put the effort in fixing the seepage to allow the completion as the peak travel season was soon approaching.
In the end, the team understood the priorities and we were able to work together to direct resources where they were needed. Eventually, we completed the project on time, maintained company’s projected margin by 20% and we had to fully functional site within the stipulated time.
I love the challenge of coming in every day and trying to figure out solutions.Controlling costs, meeting the customer expectation with limited budget, finding the right people, handling failures, managing time, maintaining aging equipment and facilities, are the main challenges I face.

Facility Management is about to undergo a transformation. A transformation that will move the industry from being building-centric to being user-centric. In order to maintain the smart building, the FM should be super smart. In other words, to be super smart, FM has to do human capital development.
4.45 What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m always listening to music. Sometimes I write. I hope new professionals in the FM industry find my articles helpful.
