A British manufacturer of a new modular sleeping pod has agreed a deal with a Russian company to sell 50 of its pods to create a new 'podtel'.
Podtime, A London-based firm run by joint managing directors Jon Gray and Paul Grindrod, said that the sale was to a client who planned to take advantage of the heavy seasonal demand for budget accommodation in Moscow during the summer months.
The sale follows a recent deal with a company in New York after it signed a deal with a US distributor, and the firm has also sold pods in France and Switzerland.
The company is also in talks with an airport operator in the Far East and said it hopes to have a deal in place with a distributor in Dubai for the Gulf region soon.
In Britain, some of the pods have been bought by companies to provide on-site sleeping facilities and are also being trialled by the Youth Hostels Association.
Joint managing director Paul Grindrod said: “The USA is the Holy Grail for any SME, but to get the Russian deal so soon afterwards is very encouraging.”
