Australian media are reporting that Qantas is planning to cut thousands of jobs in a bid to reduce costs by $2 billion within the next three years.

One report predicted that the number of jobs to be slashed could go up to 6,000, and include pilots and engineers.

In a statement, Qantas declined to comment on how many jobs would be cut, but added that there was a series of unsubstantiated rumours swirling around ahead of the announcement of its half-year results.
