The Harvard Graduate School of Design is reoffering its free online course called “The Architectural Imagination” that teaches students to understand architecture through “cultural expression and technical achievement”.

The course will be directed by the school’s Eliot Noyes Professor of Architectural Theory, K. Michael Hays, and will run for 10 weeks until July 2019.

Students will study social and historical contexts behind well-known architectural projects, as well as basic principles to produce drawings and models.

The idea of architectural imagination will be explored in this course, both contextually (social and historical) and through the concept of new technologies. Students will look at technology and innovation as a component of architecture, rethinking ways in which it can play a role in creating new experiences.

The course will offered through Harvard/MIT’s online edX platform, joining other architecture courses that are already on offer from various other institutes.

The course is now open, and free, with an additional $99 for a verified certificate of completion.
