Dubai-based boutique practice 4Space Design has completed the latest café for homegrown UAE coffeehouse Kava & Chai, using an algorithm to create a parametric ceiling.
Kava & Chai's speciality coffee shop in Dubai International Financial Centre spans more than 160m² and 4Space Design has stayed true to its brief by creating a space that elevates design.
The parametric ceiling serves as the focal point. Teal structured pipes featuring leafy graphics paying homage to the coffee roasters used by Kava & Chai for their popular blends.
4Space Design says the large pipes were designed using a parametric process based on an algorithm. Utilising such advanced techniques has allowed the atelier to create a sense of structural geometry.
Teal provides a soft colour palette in keeping with Kava & Chai’s corporate identity that simultaneously exudes the soul of the space, which is a mixture of calm and excitement, sophistication and reflection.
“4SPACE Design has created a successful narrative from the brand’s history and turned a dull and boring space into a more productive yet cozy and Instagram-worthy place,” the practice said in a statement to Commercial Interior Design.
Customised lighting employed by 4Space Design at Kava & Chai’s spot in Mall of the Emirates makes an appearance again. The soft lighting works brilliantly with the natural materials to create an almost palpable rhythmic aesthetic that enhances the surroundings.
Composite terrazzo is used for the tables, while sustainable Palladiana terrazzo has been selected for the flooring.
Meanwhile, live coral colours have inspired the seating pods and chairs.
An element of sophistication is provided by the oak counter inlaid with coffee beans and tea leafs pays tribute to the Kave & Chai's DIFC café.
