Thousands of trees and plants will be built for Sobha Hartland's Forest Villas as part of a human-centric design strategy to maximise light, space and sound.

Sobha Hartland is a $2.5bn lifestyle megaproject in Dubai that – increasingly – is focusing on the integration of wellbeing and sustainability.

This can be seen in plans to surround villas in greenery and build rooftop sky gardens.

Dubai-based real estate developer Sobha Realty is leading the project and Stephen Atherton, corporate design director at Sobha Group, who joined in 2013, told Commercial Interior Design that wellbeing has become increasingly important for the development.

“There is a recent emphasis on the integration of wellness and sustainability in living spaces and we have made a conscious effort to include this in One Park Avenue, the Forest Villas and Gardenia Villas,” he said.

The Forest Villas will be surrounded by a man-made forest comprised of more than 300 species of trees and vegetation.

Characterised by a contemporary and timeless design, the villas will be built with sustainably-sourced natural materials and designed to foster healthy lifestyles.

“From the scenic surroundings to the ease of accessibility, designer interiors to the exclusive outdoor spaces – every inch of the villas are designed for families and lifestyle,” he added.

Sobha Hartland’s One Park Avenue, meanwhile, is a 24-storey tower set to “reimagine new-age living through a sustainable lens”, Atherton said.

The building will have six sky gardens with landscaped outdoor vertical spaces and an open-air cinema.

The ambitious Sobha Hartland community is set alongside the Dubai Water Canal in Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City. While Atherton admits he faces a tight schedule for the design delivery, the business is committed to a human-centric development strategy.

“As an international luxury developer, we are redefining the art of living, while at the same time delivering sustainable and smart communities through a unique design philosophy.”
