Dubai-based furniture and lighting distributor Super Studio has hired Catalina Ruiz Urquiola as partner and executive director, with the business looking for exciting brands to add to its portfolio.

Founded in 2012 by Mohsin Jawaheri, Super Studio represents 35 furniture and lighting brands from renowned names such as Davide Groppi, Michael Anastassiades and Tom Dixon.

Urquiola joined the super fun, super creative team earlier this year to build and develop relationship with the creative industries as the company has big plans ahead and is expanding into a new showroom.

“My role in the company is to strengthen our relationships with the design community and our brands. We work closely with the region’s most prestigious designers and represent 35 carefully curated furniture and lighting brands,” Urquiola tells Commercial Interior Design.

“We truly do not consider Super Studio as a traditional distributor, but more of a platform and design lab, a place where designers can come to gain inspiration, experiment with furniture and learn about the inspiration behind each object,” she adds.

Bron in Japan, Urquiola hails from a family of architects and designers. She started her career in Milan’s world-leading design sector before working in New York’s fashion industry. Dubai came calling in 2017.

Super Studio’s founder Jawaheri comes from a project management and design fit out background, but is detail orientated and has a clear passion for great design.

Together, the pair are determined to take Super Studio to new heights.

They represent an eclectic mix of established classics and up-and-coming brands that explore new materials and cutting-edge manufacturing processes. Dutch sustainable furniture firm DeVorm, for example, uses recycled thermoplastic fabric in its collection.

Urquiola says she is always “on the hunt” for original furniture and lighting brands that can inspire designers and satisfy the continually evolving demands of Super Studio’s clientele.

Some of the newest brands in the company’s collection include Flos, Giopato&Coombes, Kettal, Moroso and Muuto.

“We aim to spread the passion of the creative directors and product designers of our brands and help enrich projects by sharing the story of each item in our collection, in turn inspiring designers to create truly unique design concepts,” Urquiola adds.

With 35 brands from Italy, France, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, UK, Canada, US and New Zealand, Jawaheri and Urquiola are elevating Super Studio as it moves to a new showroom and expands its collection.

This is a paid partnership between Commercial Interior Design and Super Studio.
