Nicola Fahy, 29, has been named head of F&B design at Dubai-based interiors firm Studio EM.

Having designed spaces for Five Guys, Wagamama, and Marco Pierre White Restaurants, Fahy has built up a solid reputation in the food and drink sector, delivering 35 projects in this line.

She joined Studio EM as an intern before becoming a junior designer seven years ago. As well as tens of restaurant jobs, she has worked on high-project projects like Skydive Dubai and online fashion retailer Namshi’s HQ.

“I’m really happy to be the new head of F&B design at Studio EM,” she told Commercial Interior Design, following her promotion.

“I’ve always loved restaurant and if I wasn’t a designer I would have been a chef. Even as a little girl I used to get my parents into a lot of trouble by running into kitchens just to see what was going on behind the scenes. Even now I put my husband through the ringer by asking to see the kitchens of restaurants I really like when we are travelling or out in Dubai.”

In her new role, Fahy wants to mentor younger designers “in the same way” that Studio EM owner and creative director, Emma Stinson, did for her.

Commenting on Fahy’s appointment, Stinson added: “Nicola and her rise through the company is the embodiment of everything I wanted to achieve when setting up the studio. We made a conscious decision early on in the company to pluck young talent direct from university, to harness them, mentor them, and help them grow.”

Stinson added that Fahy had grown from a “shy intern” into her “right-hand woman” at the boutique design agency.
