Guests should not expect a seamless interior design when the bohemian-style 25hours Hotel Dubai opens its doors next year, CEO Christoph Hoffmann said.

Disruptive German hospitality outfit 25hours Hotels is building a 434-key hotel in Dubai World Trade Centre’s One Central Development in Business Bay – and the hotel is the company’s first outside of Europe.

Woods Bagot is the interior designer for 25hours Hotel Dubai and has created something fresh, colourful, and quickly. It portrays a story of ancient and modern nomads, with a design that captures the Middle East's historical and cosmopolitan feel.

Boasting a multitude of eclectic elements harking back to the flea markets of Cairo, Marrakesh, and Paris, Hoffmann has spoken of his desire to have an array of individualised items of artwork, furniture, and textiles. One thing it won’t have, though, is a “slick design”.

“We don’t like seamless design at 25hours; seamless to me sounds like it’s been created out of only one mechanism. There are so many hotels in this world that are seamless, but seamless means it is not disruptive and we want to be disruptive.

“If I go through Dubai, there are many beautiful hotels, but they are always seamlessly designed,” he added. “I want to create an atmosphere where you stop for a little bit and you get, maybe, a little bit confused.”

Hoffmann spoke of his inspiration for Parisian hotels, using superlatives such as “beautiful”, “charming” and “a bit shabby”. This rough-around-the-edges style is something he wants to bring to Dubai.

He added that 25hours Hotel Dubai is being delivered through a partnership of local designers, with a team comprised of Hopkins, WSP, and Woods Bagot. This trio is delivering the architecture, engineering, and interior design respectively, working in conjunction with the 25hours Creative Lab – the German company’s in-house design arm.
