In the run-up to Expo 2020 Dubai, Commercial Interior Design is reviewing every country pavilion unveiled so far.
There will be 192 in total. Information about every confirmed pavilion has not been made public because it is up to the individual countries to make this call, but Expo 2020 Dubai has shared design details of many pavilions with Commercial Interior Design.
Creneau International won a design competition in March to deliver the interiors of the Belgium Pavilion, which Assar Architects and Vincent Callebaut Architectures are also working on.
Creneau International, which is headquartered in Belgium and has a UAE office, will be responsible for the design and development of retail and catering concepts in the pavilion.
The eco-conscious structure will use renewable energy sources to power itself, utilising what the expo team call “smart technologies” to feed plants and cuisine that will be served to visitors.
It has been designed to resemble an ark and the building's exterior will be covered in greenery and will be equivilant to a net-zero energy structure, as it will produce more energy than it consumes.
In September 2019, construction contractor Besix broke ground on the zero-waste building, which is situated with the Mobility District.
