10 Design has won this year's Best Outdoor Design of the Year award at the 2019 Commercial Interior Design Awards for its work on the Al Seef Contemporary District in Dubai.
The area has activated approximately 670m of the Dubai Creek waterfront, with boutique food and beverage, retail, hospitality and marina amenities covering more than 85,000m².
The winning project was highly praised, with one judge saying the “materiality and textures” and how they connected to water were exceptionally well thought through.
Chris Jones, partner Europe and the Middle East at 10 Design, said: “We’re delighted to win this award. It’s a great project and a lot of effort went into it from our side. We’ve been active in the region for a long time and it’s great to recognition for such good work.
“I love the way the project connects with the waterfront; the way the team developed the ideas to introduce the Creek into the project and bring water into the public realm and create shaded spaces, much needed shaded spaces for a city like Dubai where it can be extremely hot. To have comfortable public realm that is self-shading, to create a nice place to sit and have a cup of coffee is just fantastic.”
Highly commended in this category is Desert Ink for AL Faya Lodge, which won in this year's Hotel category. The judges pointed out that this project’s strength lies in a “beautiful simplicity” that works seamlessly with its surroundings.
The other shortlisted projects included Dubai Hills Villa by Urban Landscape, Akira Back by Keane, Wavehouse by Bishop Design and Roman Lounge at Cesar's Palace Bluewaters Dubai by KCA International.
